The Myth of EFT

When you first heard of Tapping or EFT, have you thought that it looks a little weird? If you are like me, you probably did your first round with lots of skepticism. Your curiosity was what kept you tapping, isn’t it?
And then, as if by magic, you get a result, an amazing result. Headache is gone, the pain you had for years, maybe the traumatic memory or chronic fear…. gone… no more… Freedom!
You start believing in it so much that you try it on every possible thing and it feels so right, it feels perfect. You share it with your friends and family, you even start a little “EFT biz” and call yourself an Expert after doing first 15 sessions or reading a book, or watching the video. It’s just simply fascinating!
… I would like to end the story here and say that all EFT-ers lived happily ever after…
Gary Craig’s daughter Tina, busted my myth of EFT with the simple statement:
“EFT is very powerful, but it’s not magic!”
Tapping is just a tool, a vehicle, a method that indeed creates remarkable changes.
The myth of happiness is that I only have to have this ______ (thing, person, house, money) and everything will be all right.
The myth of EFT is that I only have to TAP on this ________ (issue, emotion, memory, behavior) and everything will be all right.
Although I am someone who taps every day, I am more than a tapper. There is more to life. And there is more to you.
When we buy into the myth that everything will be ok “if” or “when” I tap on everything, we forget that life is colorful and in order to really thrive and live a delicious life, we are allowed to experience life and make mistakes or we can easily get sucked into the closed box. We can stop learning and develop the limiting belief “I am the expert”. (It might sound as a cute affirmation, yet, if not used properly, it has a trap in it.)
The trap of “The expert” is very subtle and feels so good to the ego. (Look at what happened to James Arthur Ray). There are gurus that are “saving” your relationships, while they have been single ever since their last divorce years ago, there are marketers that are selling expensive products on how to heal certain problem, while they are still having that same problem, there are broke ones that will help you make more money…
And while I believe that indeed, tapping can help you with all of those circumstances; it is obvious that “tapping only” will not.
Good, quality life requires your full participation. If you have craving, tapping can help – but if you are hungry – eat. If you are tired, tapping can help – but napping can too. If you are lonely, tapping can cheer you up – so can dancing with your friends.
Look at the situation and see all the ways that are to be covered:
- emotional
- physical
- practical
The choice to tap, is an excellent choice that will make no lasting difference whatsoever if you don’t embrace your life as well. If you only tap on your “money issues” and never make the first step to ask for the raise, or contribute to the world with your talents, mere EFT will just be “weird tapping”.
Even Gary Craig himself said many times that the way of tapping is just one level and that as the time goes by, the planet will became more subtle and we will get results without tapping at all.
I was in the audience as he was sharing that in his workshop. Someone asked him about his personal life, assuming that he is tapping all day long. He laughed and shared that he also has a life and is allowing himself to watch “mindless TV” too. (Yup, there were some sighs in the room that expressed shock and disbelief)
I am inviting you to USE your own common sense and take part in the magic of life.
Hundreds of years before EFT was “invented,” people were overcoming amazing obstacles, growing and contributing to the world. Now, with the power of Tapping (which I am so grateful for) we can do so much more. If we expand our mind, our thinking and join in with the whole heart.
Yes, I am pro tapping.
And yes, I am also pro thinking… pro living.
Fanatic “tapping-only” without life is not Delicious to me.
Life is for living, Liv Delicious!

Helena,
Great point.
Sure, substituting life with therapy is not a good think. Life is to live it.
From one side.
But I sense there is another one:
The mere fact that people tap instead of living, showes that people don’t feel comfortable enough to live.
*This, should be handled by therapy*, EFT for instance.
I don’t sure we currently have enough tools to do this, to make people feel *really* comfortable in life, with no major obstacles. When this happens, the discussion on TAPPING-INSTEAD-OF-LIVING will be redundant.

Yes, Dani,
I understand your point.
Deep down in our hearts, we all know when we are “addicted” to tapping and use it as a mask to the belief “I need to fix myself”.
It is a very fine, subtle line that each one of us intuitively knows.
And I believe that we have enough tools. The question is – are we using them or just buying new ones?
Love,
Helena-Summer
